Bio
Amber Lodman is a Harlem-based contemporary artist whose work is rooted in personal narrative. She examines how memory, lineage, and Black identity are constructed, inherited, and reimagined through visual language, using layered color and pattern to reflect a sense of pride, knowledge, and love of self.
Her work situates personal narrative within larger conversations about memory, lineage, and the preservation and reimagining of Black identity. Her practice is currently evolving through a reignited interest in ceramic work, expanding how these themes take shape materially. Her work reflects an ongoing process of self-discovery while acknowledging the significant role art has played in nurturing her throughout her life. The community formed through art remains central to her practice, grounding it in connection, meaning, and shared experience.
She received her B.A. in Studio Art from Florida State University (2011) and her M.A. in Higher Education and Student Affairs from New York University (2014).
